Make sure you have put your lawn mower other power equipment to rest properly.

Give your lawn mower a good season end cleaning and tune up. It worked hard for you this year. Show it some appreciation and it'll work hard for you again next year too. Drain all the excess gas out of the tank and run it until it shuts off. Be sure that a blade sharpening and balancing is included in your tune up.

Now is the time to protect your young trees from sun scald.

In the winter the sun reflects off the snow and warms the thin bark and it begins to thaw. As the sun sets, the temperatures drop, refreezing the plant tissue. Young trees can experience vertical splits in the bark from this stressful freeze/thaw cycle. In October or November you need to wrap the trunks of susceptible trees to prevent splitting. We recommend the inexpensive neutral brown colored wrap that comes in rolls. Simply wrap around the base of the trunk, working your way up to the lowest branches. Use black electrical tape to secure the wrap. This tape is expandable and stretches throughout the winter. DON'T USE DUCT TAPE, it is very restrictive and does not stretch. We do not recommend the plastic tubes or plastic wrap because they can leave too much of the trunk exposed. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

Holiday lights brighten your day and your neighborhood.

Holiday lights can make your home the talk of the neighborhood. It is simple to create simple and effective displays that complement your home and landscape and bring out holiday cheer. Here are some ideas of what you can light up.

Home Lighting -- Make your home the talk of the neighborhood.

Tree Lighting -- Lit trees are breathtaking and elegant.

Trunk Lighting -- Lighting tree trunks is stunning.

Shrub Lighting -- Shrubs are economical to light and offer a twinkling enhancement to your home.

Garland -- Wrapped with lights, garland offers a classic look.

Tree Tops -- Install tree tops with lights in beds or planters.

Make sure to wrap up all your holiday lighting supplies neatly when you take them down and put them in a container. Then they will be ready to use next year. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

Ask about our exclusive "icicle-style" lights.

We are not referring to the fixed-length curtain lights you see everywhere. Clients and neighbors consistently say "Now that looks like icicles." Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

Nothing says Christmas more effectively than colored holiday lights.

Colored lights say "Christmas" the best. White lights say "winter," thus giving you more bang for your buck because you will leave them up longer. Make sure to wrap up all your holiday lighting supplies neatly when you take them down and put them in a container. Then they will be ready to use next year. Tree tops with white lights installed in pots, planters and beds complete your outdoor winter decor.

Tree tops (24" - 36") are white or black spruce tips that are harvested in Northern Minnesota are a great way to accent your outdoor winter decor.

Install tree tops in pots, planter boxes or in-ground beds. It is important to re-cut the base of the tree top before placing it in the soil. After making a fresh cut, push them 4-5 inches deep into a heavy, sandy soil. For best results, place them tightly to give the appearance of a single pyramidal tree. 10" pots will need 5-6 tree tops; 12" pots will need 6-7; 14" pots will need 7-9 tops. Make sure to place the larger tops in the center to give height and symmetry to the arrangement, then place the smaller tops along the edges. After you have arranged the tops the way you want them, water the soil thoroughly. Keep the soil moist until the ground freezes. If you install your tree tops early in the season before it is consistently cold, you may want to consider spraying them with an anti-desiccant. Products such as WiltPruf help seal in their moisture. Remember if we experience warm and or windy weather, you may have to re-secure a few of them to keep the arrangement looking great. Add white holiday lights and red twigged dogwood twigs to complete your display. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

Coniferous (Evergreen) Trees can lower energy costs serving as a windbreak against cold winter winds.

Amazing, isn't it?

Regular roof raking (every 6") reduces the chance of damaging and costly ice dams forming.

We recommend that you remove snow above 6" from your roof and deck. Rake the first 4-10' up from the fascia along your roofline using aluminum or plastic snow rakes. Frequent removal of snow will insure that your roof will not develop ice dams and will make it easier on you when you do it. Be sure to protect shrubbery on the ground from the falling snow when you are roof raking. Clear the snow away from your foundation and decks when excessive build-up occurs. Regular roof raking can take the same amount of time as one or two lengthy rakings a year. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

When snow exceeds 6" on your deck, we recommend shoveling it off.

To reduce stressful weight, we recommend that you remove snow above 6" from deck. Be sure to protect shrubbery on the ground from the falling snow when you are roof raking. Clear the snow away from your foundation and decks when excessive build-up occurs. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.

Sand and salt left on your garage floor cause corrosion of the concrete.

Clear the muck away. When necessary, sweep the floor clear of sand/salt, ice and snow. Make sure to not shovel the muck into your yard. This will cause damage to your plants and turf. Go to our request estimate page to be contacted for an estimate.
